Helsinki Howlers
Dark winters, loud fans. The Howlers play in near-darkness for half the season. Their crowd noise is measurable on seismographs.

Stewardship
Section titled “Stewardship”On 30 September 2026 Graine Wetsky Funds filed the Stewardship Offer with all forty-eight registers. Alignment needed two thirds of every share on the register as it stood when the ballot opened. A share that was never cast counted against.
Helsinki aligned with 72.4 percent of the frozen register: 3,598,974 of 4,970,624 shares, against a bar of 3,313,916. One citizen held just over half of the register and aligned it. The rest came from other holders. The Funds held under a tenth of one percent and were not the difference. Helsinki had been eliminated two days before the ballot closed.
Helsinki is one of two Stewarded teams. The other is Busan Blizzards. The Schedule of Operating Provisions applies to it. Every clause is in force:
- §6 Site. Home games, postseason included, are played at Graine Wetsky Arena. Twenty-three home dates in Season 04, seventy-one thousand seats.
- §4 Allocation. At a Stewarded home game the Funds keep every kcup The Jambono leaves behind. The boards stand bare, whoever is visiting.
- §5 Signal. H.O.R.N. does not relay the team’s games, home or away.
- §7 Emolument. Holders of record receive a supplementary distribution every day, at a rate the Funds set and may revise.
- §8 Network. The team’s live games carry the Funds’ commercial placement.
- §9 Term. Alignment does not expire. It is discharged only by a vote of the register “in the prescribed form together with the reconstitution charge”. On 30 September Le Council said it had no such form, and had begun writing one.
Graine Wetsky Arena belongs to no team, so it carries no arena condition. Steam stays with The Dark Sauna and does not travel. On a Weird Wednesday there is nothing at the Arena to lend a visitor’s condition to.
Nothing in the S.H.I.F.T. protects a Stewarded team. Helsinki’s front office filed at the Season 03 window like everyone else’s.
Arena modifier—Steam
Section titled “Arena modifier—Steam”Visiting team accuracy drops. Hard to see. Hard to pass. The Sauna is thick.

The arena—lore
Section titled “The arena—lore”The Dark Sauna is, architecturally, a sauna. A very large sauna that happens to contain a regulation ice rink. The Almighty Ice appeared inside an existing public bathhouse complex, and the building grew around it overnight. The steam is real—it seeps from vents in the floor that no plumber can trace, thickening the air above The Almighty Ice in a persistent low haze. Visiting teams complain that they can’t see the far boards. Home fans consider this an advantage. The Howlers have played in partial darkness since their first game. They don’t seem to mind. Le Council has measured the noise levels during Howlers home games and classified the data. The seismograph readings from Helsinki Geophysical Observatory correlate with the crowd at The Dark Sauna on game nights.
The arena—building
Section titled “The arena—building”Clad in pale birch wood and dark stone, The Dark Sauna looks from the outside like a Finnish bathhouse scaled to absurdity. The roofline is low and curved, following the contour of the land. Steam vents along the eaves release thin trails of vapor into the Helsinki air year-round. The entrance is through a series of progressively warmer corridors—the lobby is cool, the concourse is warm, and by the time you reach the seating bowl, the air is thick and humid despite The Almighty Ice below. The seats are dark wood benches, heated from beneath. The lighting is deliberately dim—warm amber downlights that leave the upper reaches of the building in shadow. The Almighty Ice glows in the darkness. The scoreboard is backlit, not bright. Everything is designed to absorb sound and redirect it downward, creating a resonant chamber where the crowd’s noise becomes physical. Opposing teams describe it as playing inside a drum.
