The Jambono

The Jambono resurfaces reality. It appears between periods and between seasons. Once, it went further than the ice. Caretaker or corruptor—nobody knows. The Jambono maintains The Almighty Ice, but it’s unclear whether it works for the Ice or is trying to contain it.

Sometimes when it resurfaces, things change. Stats shift. Goals retroactively didn’t happen. A player is different.

The Jambono appears between periods of every match to clean the ice. Most of the time this is ordinary maintenance. Occasionally, during a game, a random event is retroactively changed after it happens. The feed updates. The community notices. Le Council has no official position on whether this constitutes time travel.

At the end of the season, The Jambono performs The Resurfacing—the preparation of the league for what comes next. Player modifiers shift. Reality is adjusted. JM previews the changes. The new season begins. Things may be different.

Not to be confused with the ledger entry of the same name, below.

Every pass leaves shavings. Since June 2026 they have been a quantity: caught at each period-end, sold on the marketplace, and offered at the parishes. Since July, Graine Wetsky Funds has caught them first, with a Recovery Assembly that has twice been rebuilt to reach deeper.

Enough was caught, by the end of September, to pour one regulation sheet. It is the ice at Graine Wetsky Arena.

In the first week of October 2026, the Looneys held across Hockay grew by a factor Le Council’s Fiscal Observation Office “declined to read aloud.” Le Council convened to study the matter at rinkside, where the ledgers are kept cold.

At approximately 02:40 UITC, a member of Le Council’s support staff tripped on a cable that Le Council has since been unable to locate. A cup of coffee left the member’s hand. It reached The Jambono.

The Jambono did not stop. It completed its pass, then a second pass beyond the ice sheet. Le Council’s instruments recorded it crossing the boards, the press box, and the ledger. Le Council published The Jambono Has Resurfaced on 7 October.

What the second pass did:

  • Every stack at or below Ⱡ1,000,000,000 was untouched—counting Looneys in hand, on open wagers, and owed on wagers already won.
  • Above that line, the higher the stack, the deeper the shave.
  • Nobody passed anybody. Every citizen who stood above another before the incident stands above them now.
  • Open wagers were resurfaced with their owners. A ticket kept its odds. Its stake and its return were shaved by the same measure as the rest of the stack.
  • No share was taken. Every certificate is where it was. But each team’s price “followed the citizens who hold it”: a team held by the deepest stacks fell with them, and a team held by many smaller hands fell least. S.L.U.S.H. recorded the new prices as found.

Fifty-eight citizens were reached. Each has a ledger entry titled The Resurfacing, recording what they held before and what remains. They also hold the Jambono-Cooked distinction.

Le Council does not consider this an honour. Le Council does not consider it a penalty either. It is a record.

Le Council has since prohibited beverages within four metres of The Jambono, and is aware the measure arrives late. In the same notice, B.U.T. amended the terms of Run Deep.

Le Council does not know whether The Jambono was caretaking or corrupting. Le Council has never known. The coffee does not appear to have helped.

The Stone Opera (Prague) has a parking spot for The Jambono in the backstage corridor. This is the only arena that publicly acknowledges accommodating The Jambono on a regular basis, though fans at other arenas report seeing the door to the maintenance corridor open by itself between periods.
