What is Hockay?

Hockay is a community-driven sports experience wrapped in an evolving mythology. Fans watch, bet, draft, vote, and collectively shape the fate of a world governed by forces they don’t fully understand.

The rules are hockey-like and deliberately simple. Pucks go in nets. There are three periods. You can fight. No complicated rules. The complexity lives in the mythology, the modifiers, and the community—not the rulebook.

It is pronounced “Hockay” or “Hoqué”. Not “Hockey.” Not “Hock-ee.” Not “Okay.” The Almighty Ice was very clear about this.

  • 48 teams across six continents (and one under the North Atlantic), split into two conferences. See them all.
  • 15 players per team, 720 on rosters and more waiting in the unattached pool. Each has hidden stats and a 1–5 star public rating.
  • Season of ~7 weeks: 46 matchdays of regular season, one game at the top of every hour, 24/7. Then the playoffs. Season 04 opens on 19 October 2026. Full cycle →
  • Currency: Looneys. They cannot be bought, and there is no arrangement under which money becomes Looneys. More → The one place real money enters Hockay is La Caisse, an optional membership that buys no advantage on the ice or in the ledger.
  • Governing body: Le Permanent Council du Hockay (LPCHUIP). Half sports league, half paranormal investigation unit.

Three layered systems of modifiers make every match something other than plain hockey:

  1. Player modifiers—gained or lost in The Sixth.
  2. Match modifiers—announced before each game as LPCHUIP advisories.
  3. Arena modifiers—one per team’s home building. Always active at home, except on the days the calendar says otherwise.

And behind all three: The Almighty Ice.

You watch. You bet. You pick a team and care about it more than is reasonable. You check scores at work. You argue with strangers about whether Displacement is actually a disadvantage. You refresh the feed during a Whiteout and see nothing, because that is the point.

Then, if the sport alone is not enough:

  • Buy shares in your team—or in someone else’s—and collect a dividend at the end of the season.
  • Attend your parish with the day’s Seal, or endorse a petition with it. You cannot do both—unless you are a sociétaire, in which case the two stop competing for it.
  • Vote at the S.H.I.F.T. on every transfer your team files.
  • Buy the shavings The Jambono leaves behind between periods, and eat them, sell them, or consecrate them.
  • Donate shares and Looneys to other fans, on a public register that Le Council keeps in perpetuity.
  • Collect cards—players frozen as they were that season, and single games, sold sealed by La Confrérie. Keep them in your binder, or recycle them for Looneys.
  • Trade directly on Le Marché Gelé: Looneys, shavings, shares and cards, against anything another citizen will put up.
  • Name a rival—up to three teams you want your own to beat.
  • Raise an Idol and let the L.A.M.P. tell you when they score.

Hockay is a spectator sport. You are the spectator. The Almighty Ice is the sport.

New citizens are walked through /welcome, in three chapters: Enroll, Play, and Convene.

  1. Open your file.
  2. Pick your team. T.A.P.E. suggests one, and notes it if you deviate.
  3. Your opening stake: Ⱡ1,000 as a welcome gift plus Ⱡ9,000 from H.A.B.S., the Hockay Accessibility and Beginner Subvention, which citizens filled. Files that predate the season (preregistered citizens and the First Five Hundred) carry a little more.
  4. Communiqués. Agree to receive Le Council’s emails, and Le Council matches your opening stake.
  5. Own a piece of a team, or place a one-tap Ⱡ500 bet on a game.
  6. Your first Blister. Le Council issues you one, sealed. It waits for you at C.A.R.D.
  7. The Discord.
