The Sixth

During any game, there is a small but non-zero probability that a player entering the penalty box will briefly cease to exist on the ice surface. They reappear eventually — usually within the same game, occasionally not. No returning player has provided a coherent account.

Players may return:

  • Luminous, Sharp, Awake—the positive modifiers.
  • Foggy, Brittle, Hollow—the negative ones.
  • Speaking languages no one recognizes (Translated).
  • With more gravity than they left with.
  • Hearing things before they happen (Echo).
  • Moving with something the rest of us can’t feel (Tidal).

A star player enters with Luminous and might return without it—or worse, with something else entirely. This makes penalty avoidance a genuine strategic concern.

The Sixth is a gamble, not a power-up machine. Modifiers stack over a career, creating deeply weird veteran players who become legends. Early seasons have simple, mostly positive modifiers. Later seasons introduce stranger, more double-edged ones.

Over many seasons, the Sixth starts leaking. More modifiers. Weirder ones. Players returning with knowledge they shouldn’t have.

Le Council classifies this as an “Unexplained Ice Phenomenon” and assures you that concern is understandable but misplaced.

“Kowalski has returned from the Sixth. She is now Luminous.”

“Kowalski has returned from the Sixth. She is no longer Luminous.”

“Kowalski has returned from the Sixth. She seems… taller.”
